Every platform-comparison post has an incentive problem: the agency writing it usually specializes in one platform and frames the comparison to match. We’ll name that bias up front instead of pretending it doesn’t exist — our deepest, most tested hands-on experience is with Shopify and WordPress/WooCommerce; Wix is a platform we support on request but haven’t built the same depth of experience with yet. With that said, here’s a direct comparison.
Shopify
Best for: stores that want a hosted, maintenance-light platform with a mature app ecosystem for dropshipping, marketplace sync (eBay, Google Shopping), and scaling catalog operations without managing a server.
Real tradeoff: the platform is opinionated — customization beyond what its theme/app system supports requires custom app or Liquid/Hydrogen development, not just plugin installation. App costs also add up as a store scales.
We manage the entire lifecycle here — store setup, catalog architecture, checkout auditing, and the marketplace-sync troubleshooting real dropshipping catalogs need. See our Shopify page for specifics.
WordPress + WooCommerce
Best for: businesses that want full ownership of their platform (self-hosted, no per-transaction platform fee beyond payment processing), or that already have content-heavy WordPress needs alongside a store — blogs, resources, or a broader site than “just a shop.”
Real tradeoff: you own more of the maintenance burden — hosting, plugin updates, security, performance — that Shopify abstracts away. That’s a real cost if there’s no one keeping up with it, but it’s also real flexibility if there is.
This is the platform running our own site, administered the same way we’d administer a client’s. See our WordPress page.
Wix
Best for: a founder who wants an all-in-one, visually driven builder with e-commerce built in, and doesn’t need the deeper catalog/marketplace operations tooling Shopify and WooCommerce both support.
The honest caveat: we haven’t built the same operational depth here yet that we have on the other two platforms. If Wix is the right fit for your business, we’re glad to help — we’d just rather tell you where our experience actually stands than imply otherwise. See our Wix page for the same note in more detail.
How to actually decide
- Dropshipping or a growing multi-supplier catalog with marketplace ambitions (eBay, Google Shopping)? Shopify’s app ecosystem is built for this.
- Already running WordPress, or want full platform ownership without transaction-fee lock-in? WooCommerce.
- A small, visually simple store with no near-term multi-marketplace plans? Wix can be a reasonable fit — just go in knowing it’s not where our deepest experience is yet.
